Αthens Fashion Week, the longest running event of the greek fashion industry, opened its gates surprisingly from the venue of The Ellinikon Experience Park at 8-12/6.
The 32nd official fashion week of Athens, Greece
The 32nd official fashion week of Athens, Greece, offered a 5day captivating, multi-sensory experience, that was immersed into the Ellinikon’s abundant nature. The biannual large event stood for its mission to showcase supreme, established and emerging Greek fashion designers and brands and at the same time, to support sustainable fashion and the harmonious coexistence of people and nature.
The Ellinikon Experience Park
The surrounding of 900 trees and 80,000 plants of Mediterranean flora and the view of the summery, calming waters, enhanced the AFW‘s statement, that sustainability in fashion is not just a trend of the season but a philosophy and a way of life.
Therefore, the Experience Centre was from the beginning the ideal backdrop for the fashion shows and the multiple parallel events. As soon as you entered the space, you could just breath deeper, slow down and awaken your senses. In that way, senses became elevated to a central role, as a preparation for the upcoming feast.

where minimalism, sustainability and the attitude of slow fashion concepts blended thoroughly with pret-a-porter collections, imaginative jewellery and luxurious fashion brands.
Most experiential set up
Especially Paris Valtadoros and Vassilis Zoullias offered an enhanced experience from the viewer’s perspective
In Vassilis Zoullias’s catwalk, the industrial set up served as a contrast due to the enormity of its scale and made every elegant look, look even more elegant therefor. The retro-modern dressed up models looked like beautiful moving miniatures in front of a large scale nostalgic building but in a way that nobody would miss any of the designed details, and additionally the Kondylatos’ creations.
Paris Valtadoros designed a set up in the social hub and centrepiece of the Park, where an interactive fountain with hundreds of water jets became part of a captivating effect with aquatic music choreographies. The impact of the variably couloured water throughout the center of the set, made the runway seem almost as an illusion. Such was the aim of the designer, as he named his performance respectively: Illusion.
At the Illusion we enjoyed a set design where the displayed creations –outfits and accessories, bags and shoes as well- were exceptionally compatible with the scene in any minute of the show. We all had an enhanced experience and it seems that most of the attendees enjoyed it for real.
Future vision
Finally, 32nd Athens Fashion Week was designed with care, in order to allow us to connect both with fashion and nature and ultimately with ourselves. By such efforts that establish Athens as a fashion destination, AFW makes a great spectator’s experience and goes further in contributing to cultural progress. So, be assured that this topic is a priority for us and we are looking forward to talking more about this in the future.
*The 3d day was dedicated to New Designers Awards and young fashion designers.
